Sachiko Bittner of Olympia passed away in her home on Wednesday October 14, 2009. She was 81. Sachiko was born May 5, 1928 in Sapporo, Japan to Soutaro Kamashima and Naka Nakamura. Sachiko graduated from Monami High School in Sapporo.

Sachiko was the head waitress at the NCO Club at the 12th USASA Field Station, Chitose, Japan from 1953-1965. She then opened-up the “Country Bar” Stand Bar in Chitose. Sachiko married Fred Bittner in Sapporo on February 28, 1968. Sachiko and Fred owned and operated the Hideaway Tavern in Tacoma, Willapa Lanes in South Bend, Nemah Café in Nemah, Pacific Trailer Court in South Bend, Elma Lanes in Elma, Wanda’s Miracle Inn, Elma (presently Joseppi’s, Alderbrook Mobile Home Park, Olympia and Harrison RV Park in Centralia.

Sachiko enjoyed bowling. She maintained a 165 Average. She bowled in women’s leagues and tournaments. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Lady Eagles, Raymond Elks, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Sachiko is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Hitoshi Ueshima and her sisters, Misu Egashira and Shiga Takahashi.

She is survived by her Husband, Fred, Daughter Kathleen Olsen and her husband Brad, grandchildren, Nicholas Toshitaka Olsen, Miranda Chisato Olsen and Derek Satoru Olsen. Brother, Takashi Ueshima and two sisters, Ryoko Nakajima and Sada Kurauchi. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Kaiko Ueshima, brothers-in-law, Jim Bittner, and Bob and his wife Marian Bittner, sister-in-law, Loretta Prettyman, niece, Chizuru Garber, husband Joe, their daughters Melanie and Sylvia, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a Special Thanks to Western Washington Oncology, Doctor Sundararajan & Dr. Conrad and his nurse Linda at Group Health, friends, Kevin & Linda Humphries, Tammy Venard & Family, Mambo & Don Cole, John & Beverly Grostick. They would also like to thank Donna & Natalie from Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice.

Visitation will be on 19 October from 2-4pm and 20 October from 4-6pm at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday 21 October 2009 at 12:00 at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. A reception at the Elma Eagles will follow funeral services. Sachiko will be interred at Spanaway Lutheran (Schultz Acre) Cemetery in Spanaway.
