Woodrow "Curly" W. Johnson, 93, born July 6, 1916 Boone County, West Virginia, passed away at his home in Elma, WA March 2, 2010 after an extended illness.
Woodrow moved from West Virginia to Oakville, Washington in 1936 where he met and married Margaret V. Weiland in 1938. They had been married 72 years when Woodrow passed away.
Woodrow worked many years for Weyerhauser tree farm planting trees, fighting forest fires and doing mechanic work. When he retired he was working at the Hoquiam plywood mill.
Woodrow enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a member of the Elma Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was the favorite children's story teller. He also told the children stories at the S.D.A. Camp meeting held every year in Auburn, WA where he was known as Uncle Curly. Everyone also enjoyed hearing him play his harmonica.
Woodrow is survived by his 90 year old wife, Margaret V. (Weiland) Johnson; a sister Bessie Barker of Hinton, W. VA; one son Henry Johnson of Montesano, WA; two daughters, Sheila Johnson of Portland, OR and Judy Johnson of Milwaukie, OR; five granddaughters, four great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
There will be a memorial service Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 1:30PM at the Elma Seventh Day Adventist Church. Donations to the American Cancer Society may be made in lieu of flowers.
