Thomas A. Barnes 93, died peacefully March 2, 2010 at his home in Elma, WA; survived by son David L. (Remy); George T. (Sharon); Keith A. (Pam) Barnes and daughter Ruth Ann (Bruce) Dorfler; 10 grand children; 12 great grand children; 1 great-great grand child; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends; preceded in death by his wife Claire (2006); son Fred Barnes (1996); son Kenneth Barnes (1967); grandson Steven Barnes (2003).
Tom was born on May 1, 1916 to Fred and Laura Barnes in Olympia WA. He spent his youth in the Olympia and Grays Harbor area and attended the University of Washington. He worked with the Washington State Forest Fire Association until 1943 and then was assigned to the Army Transportation Service. After WWII, Tom went to work for the Standard Oil Co. and retired as Chief Engineer from Chevron Shipping (tankers) in 1979.
At Tom's request there will be no memorial service.
