Doris Ray Holloway of Montesano died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center where she recently became a resident. She was 84. Doris was born July 25, 1924 in Melbourne, Washington to Freeman and Dimple McDaniel Pennick. Besides Montesano, Doris also resided in Oakville, Hoquiam, Central Park, Porter, Puyallup, Elma and Independence, Missouri. Doris attended high school in Oakville where she graduated valedictorian in the class of 1941. She attended Pullman State for about a year.

Doris married Virgil E. Holloway on August 28, 1943. She worked as a telephone operator from 1947 until the early 1980's. Doris played piano for many church congregations throughout the years. She enjoyed working with the telephone pioneers clown unit with which she visited nursing homes and was in many local parades including the Puyallup Daffodil parade. She enjoyed needle work, piano, gardening and played at Elma Theatre productions in the 1990's. In addition to the Telephone Pioneers, Clown Unit, she was involved in 4H.

Doris is survived by sisters; Kathryn Whiteman of Tacoma and Caroline (Bob) Fields of Satsop; daughter-in-law, Shirley Holloway of Independence, Missouri; grandsons, Daniel (Mary) Holloway of Elma and David Holloway and children; great- granddaughter, Renee Elizabeth and sister-in-law, Beverly Pennick; three nieces and seven nephews.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2009 at Whiteside Family Mortuary, Elma. Visitation will be at the same location from 11-1. Interment will be at Satsop Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to a local animal shelter in Doris' name.
